Tunnel Vision

So what has this you ask to do with Gardening and Polytunnels. Absolutely nothing , just wanted to show off this M.

So Back to the point. Yes, getting on with it in gardening terms, means really getting stuck into it and preparing like mad for the coming season which is really now. So a few pics from some gardens around the place and of course Jampa Ling.

Immaculate soil prep by the Drumlane gardeners.

There are actually quite a few around, it’s open day and I think they are all in the tunnel having a well earned cup of tea. The new cultivated area is looking very well. About 4 apple trees have been planted . These were bought from the Seed Savers in Claire. I left having been  presented with a head of york cabbage grown from seed  in the tunnel with a promise to return soon.

So whats next? oh yes, Ballinamore Community Garden, yes The Fohera community garden                                       https://www.facebook.com/FoheraCommunityGarden,

yes, Brendan has done a fine job on the tunnel.

The timing of my visit was very good. Patricia was picking mushrooms for curried mushroom soup(see recipe below).

Curried mushroom soup

  1. 1
Pour the boiling water, the oysters and dried mushrooms in a bowl and set aside to soak.
  2. 2
preheat a heavy stockpot over medium heat for about 1 minute, then spray it twice with the vegetable oil.
  3. 3
add the leeks and saute for about 3 minutes, stirring constantly, until translucent.
  4. 4
add the flour and curry powder.
  5. 5
stir with a wooden spoon until the leeks are well coated.
  6. 6
add the milk and bouillon cube.
  7. 7
raise the heat to high and cook just until bubbles begin to form around the edge.
  8. 8
lower the heat to low and whisk until all ingredients are thoroughly combined.
  9. 9
stir in the fresh mushrooms and cook for 5 minutes.
  10. 10
meanwhile remove the reconstituted mushrooms from their soaking liquid, strain, squeeze out excess moisture, and roughly chop.
  11. 11
add to the stockpot and cook for 1 minute more.
  12. 12
    stir in the sherry.
From Rosie Daley’s cookbook “In The Kitchen With Rosie,
Yea, so I thought one good tip deserves another and I showed Patricia where all the slugs have been hiding. These ‘slug hotels’ are a fine gathering point for congregations of slugs. The thing is to collect them and dispose of them far away. (they may have a homing device)
Next, Swanlinbar Day centre
I will be here for a few weeks. A lovely garden and soon to be planted by visitors to the day centre and the young students of St. Mogues school in Bawnboy Co.Cavan.  So this is what the tunnel looked like before the youngsters got to work on it.
et. Voilà!
And my friend Becky’s tunnel
